Its rich flavor is the result of using some of the most sophisticated rums to come from over 300 years of traditional Caribbean rum making. Infused with a selection of secret spices, resulting in a multi-sensorial balanced experience with notes of vanilla, honey, wood, fruits and caramel. The company’s iconic rum brand, Captain Morgan’s Original Spiced Rum was based upon a recipe purchased from two local Jamaican pharmacists, the Levy Brothers, who had developed the recipe using rum from the Long Pond Distillery.

The identification of similar rums is based on the community's tasting notes and the key data of the rum. The sweetness of this rum (particularly the brown sugar flavor) balances nicely with the bitter ginger beer, and the baking spices in the rum add a depth and richness to the drink. The company eventually became most well-known for two brands: Seagram’s 5 Crown and Seagram’s 7 Crown, which were both massive commercial successes.

My only quibble is that the Rum is not labeled clearly as a ‘Spiced’ or ‘Flavoured’ Rum here in Canada. It has been a few years since I’ve tried Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum… and while I don’t necessarily have fond memories, I can’t say I remember hating it either. From the top of his list, his favourites like Kraken, captain Morgan Black and gold spiced, Old J, sailor Jerry, Pampero anniversario, vodoo spiced rum.The actual color of the spirit is clearly visible, making it much more attractive to have on the liquor shelf. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. As for me, I was defeated by the vanilla flavour which to my palate became cloying over time to such an extent that I actually avoided completing the final tastings of this rum which caused the review to be delayed by a good stretch of time.
