You turning up at a meet with a fancy all singing all dancing 500 quid Sanwa setup will do 1 of 2 things, Help you to drive like Masami Hirosaka and look like the god of the track, Or just help you look like you know what your doing, If that works for you, All great, But someone turning up with a Flysky may not look as cool as you, But in the hands of said Masami Hirosaka, You don't stand a chance, I mean, He did OK with an old AM setup. The Optima's steering doesn't require much throw either way, and I find that my servo is pushing/pulling about a quarter-inch farther than it needs to. There can even be a compatibility issue with old and new equipment of the same brand, as not everything is backward compatible.
The antenna not being fully extended probably won't make a difference 'cause I run my FS-GR3E receiver's antenna tip 2"~3" from bottom of the chassis (so antenna won't be visible outside the body), and have no range issues. My main reservation with FlySky was the long term quality/reliability which is why I started the thread tbh. I used some HD wire, soldered on some post terminals, and used some slightly longer screws in the back 2 holes up top to make a spot to mount a lanyard. Before I could only get about 15m out and it would freak out and just drive off or steer by it’s self.The GT3B will be ready to go with rechargeable AA’s but with the potential of lipo conversion and regulator should the mood take me. there are two futaba S3305 servos on the front end for steering and a duratrax sx100 servo for the throttle and brake.
The steering spring did break a month or two ago but easily replaced and has been fine apart from that. For racing, the GT5 is probably the better way to go, but, for bashing, unless you get a lemon, the GT3B is good enough. Right now, I unplug the lipo by hand - I fed the JST connectors out through the base and unplug them manually when I'm done running. I also have Nickel strips and the other stuff to actually make a 3Cell LI-ion battery (incl balancer charge cable) but since i got this to fit i dropped it (rmain reason is l later found out you should really have a spot welder for this, you should not use solder iron on batteries). I've Been running a GT5 for awhile with no issues, running 10 receivers from it currently for cars trucks that see light use. Suppose we will have to agree to disagree, I’ll turn up to a meet or scale comp with my modded rig and use my spektrum radio, comfy in hand for longer periods of time, I can smoke and drive. I'm using 48 slots of the 60 model memory (I use a spreadsheet to keep track of what is what) and though it's a bit tricky to program, it's working perfectly on everything from 2 speed comp crawlers to touring cars to drift to drag racing.
