This was an interesting insight into a life story and good to know that Linda has decided to turn her life around. Growing up after the war in the East End of London, Linda falls in with local gangsters including the Krays, Freddie Foreman and Ronnie Cook. The more I read, the more I was hooked Crime Review Black Widow is a stand-out thriller, reminiscent of the best of Nordic Noir but with its own vivid landscape Renee Knight (author of Disclaimer) Tense, intense and quite, quite brilliant Jenny Colgan Has all the verbal and narrative energy of his best work. I love how the polygamy (which honestly, is a hugely contested topic) isn't treated as a side-show scandal. Tina, everything Rachel isn’t, sultry and an ex addict and Emily the youngest and second wife who is naive and doesn’t know any other life. We find out a lot about the various wives and how they each may be responsible for her husbands dead and also about the backstory of each wife which is at times heart-breaking. It's obvious the author knows nothing about Utah, Latter-day Saints, or fundamentalist (polygamous) Mormons. My only complaint, and honestly the reason why this book isn't a four star read, is that the book is entirely too long. These would be minor things but for the fact that the whole plot centers around religion, so to have such an obvious confusion of facts on the main subject matter was a head-scratcher to me. As the story ventured onward, I really enjoyed the cult undertones (without going further into detail) and I loved to dislike all three of the Nelson wives. Lots of twists, cleverly dropped at the end of each chapter to keep the reader engaged, and lots of grim secrets to discover.There are no cuffs on my wrists but I can still feel the cold steel like I can still feel the sting of humiliation that comes with wearing them. All three wives are the suspects and the book slowly unravels - bringing to light the question - which Mrs. Brookmyre builds layers of intrigue like a chef crafting a multilayer cake, with each layer providing another tantalizing clue or red herring to keep readers guessing.
