El libro está muy bien escrito, con una buena traducción, y cuenta con un ritmo también muy ágil y constante.The setup is pretty good, and the monsters are good, but the plot is underdeveloped despite the book’s length.

Ik vond het dan ook heel jammer dat het een hele tijd duurt voor Vijf haar wat beschaafder gaat behandelen. I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books. De andere personages blijven echter vrij vlak, waardoor het ingewikkeld kan zijn om te onthouden wie welk personage ook alweer precies is.I've never shied away from the fact that I don't like really long books, as books over 500 pages rarely warrant being that long. Can't wait for more, and already imaging the spin off side-novels this interesting world could create.

Diese hat mir schon im ersten Band gefallen und auch in „Die Reise zum Forstpalast“ war sie mir sympathisch. I’ve been waiting for this sequel having loved Twelve, her pet squirrel Widget and Dog the stone guardian of the Hunting Lodge where children from all the clans of Ember learn to fight the monsters that exist in the darkness. In „Die Reise zum Frostpalast“ geht die Geschichte nahtlos weiter und auch wenn einige Zeit zwischen den beiden Bänden lag, so fand ich doch recht schnell wieder in die Welt hinein. Little pieces of Phoenix's past are touched on throughout, but Fowler has created a rich fantasy world that may not be fully understood without knowledge of book one.Daar staat tegenover dat we dankzij Joekelhonds hoofdstukken een beetje meer leren over de stammen en hoe ze met elkaar leven. The adventures are filled with monsters and wizardry it's just everything I could want in a children's fantasy book. Victory and Morgren cast their evil through the clans, so that Dog and Sharpspark are needed to reunite and inform them of the real evil at work. So apparently, I have to wait until September 2024 for the next in the series and I just don't think I have that kind of patience.
