About this deal

The fourth volume of Chainsaw Man continues the battle between Denji and those who tried to eliminate all of Special Division 4.

Last volume, readers saw nearly every member of Division 4 wiped out by partners of the Gun Devil, including a powerful and emotional death for Denji’s first friend. Fami, though having yet to be seen in a direct combat scenario, is shown to be very powerful too, and exceedingly resourceful in much the same way that Makima was.The Death Devil's current agenda is unknown, although if Nostradamus' Prophecy is to be believed, she is expected to try to bring about the end of humanity, thereby ushering in the Age of Devils on Earth. Following a tense conversation, Fami manages to recruit her Horseman sister Yoru and Asa into the church, turning them both into a national celebrity to serve as a public face for the church. The War Devil can turn anything she believes is "hers" (her property) into her weapons, from objects to lifeforms. After facing severe casualties and crippling injuries, Denji’s team realize how outmatched they are by the gang of mysterious assassins aiming to steal the demon within Denji's heart. While Nayuta is currently the youngest of the four as Makima's recently born reincarnation, [11] it is not explicitly confirmed if Fami and Yoru are older than Makima was. After seemingly succeeding at defeating Chainsaw Man and seizing control over him, Makima is suddenly sliced open by Denji with a chainsaw. Well after Makima's downfall, Barem Bridge, a former subject of Makima, noted that if she were still alive, she may have been able to defeat the Death Devil.

In volume 4 we are introduced some new characters - very much liking Kishibe who has been tasked by Makima to train Denji and Power into becoming fearsome devil hunters with pretty hilarious and bloody consequences. Fujimoto shows the action and the horror of the series while also making sure readers know that there aren’t magic moments to bring back dead characters. This section of Chainsaw Man Volume 4 is fun to read, like any training montage section, but Fujimoto takes it a step further by using the training to showcase elements of who Denji and Power are as characters. Kishibe adds extra pressure by saying that if the mission fails, the division is done for and both Denji and Power will be killed in a real battle against himself as punishment for their failure. I took a break from this series (because I was finding it pretty mediocre) but I’m back and suddenly in love with everything that I previously wasn’t.
