I played this poem to children in year two and they enjoyed the facial expressions and sound effects. He illustrated Tiny Little Fly (Walker Books) a witty book of rhyme by Michael Rosen, in 2009 before emigrating to America. Now, as any parent of young children knows, there’s a fine balance to be had in teaching kids to cook and bake. The illustrations, complete with scrawled sound-effects and onomatopoeic bits, are very rough and ready, and so weren't completely to my taste.

The illustrations reminded me of my own drawings in childhood, they give the book an authentic feel. In the video, Michael explains how much he loves chocolate cake, and how one night, he snuck downstairs in the middle of the night to "take a little look at it. What a joyful story of a cute blond chocolate cake-loving boy who gets into mischief over a midnight snack!He was the Children’s Laureate from 2007-2009 and has published over 200 books for children and adults, including the recent bestseller Many Different Kinds of Love and On The Move.

Now whenever he asks for chocolate cake we aren’t sure if he wants us to read to him or get him some cake! And now, I’ve got the taste of it in my mouth, and I can’t stop myself, so I go, *imitates knife cutting* And I got all these slices, and TA-TA-TA. It's been a pleasure seeing the character growth for all the characters as they start to become more three dimensional. It will fascinate any child, hearing of an adult confess this to them, the greed, the disobedience, the possible consequences.

Also, this may be a great time to note that I apparently am not capable of beating eggs to stiff peaks.
