About this deal

Having said that, I do think, judging from other reviews I've read such as the Flair Espresso Review on Home Barista, that this kind of quality is possible. Perfect for those that want a fully manual experience with barista level features like the 58mm portafilter. HANDCRAFT SHOTS OF ESPRESSO - With the Flair Espresso Maker, you have a complete manual espresso machine that can produce professional quality shots of espresso from your home, or wherever you are. We created the NEO to be simple, environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and fun, all while producing delicious espresso.

This is the power part of the machine, featuring a direct lever (nb, the pin holding the round disk that pushes down on the brew group's piston can fall out if you hold this sideways). The Flair Classic is the original Flair Espresso Maker that turned the craft coffee industry on its head in 2016. As capable as any of the later models, the Flair Classic is designed to produce quality espressos at that perfect pressure between 6-9 bars, and its so portable that you can enjoy it wherever you are! If you only want Espresso, you're not concerned about steaming milk (or if you're happy to froth and heat milk via alternative means), and if you're wanting an Espresso maker which is portable and compact, and which is capable of making nice Espresso, and won't break the bank – then Flair may be your perfect Espresso maker. Feeling the travel itch, the 58+ features an easy detachable preheat controller, meaning that you can go off-grid and brew espresso anywhere.

If you’re looking for espresso options while travelling, while camping, for the weekend, or up at the cottage, this is a great solution.

It is larger in terms of water capacity, larger in terms of dose range, and more capable in terms of managing different brew ratios. The main brewing group comprises four parts: an outer collar made of thick steel, and designed to retain heat; a piston that slides into the brewing collar, one that eventually the lever will push to create your brewing pressure; a “portafilter” portion that contains the grinds chamber and output screen; and a removable dispersion screen you place above the tamped, packed ground coffee. Other commenters have mentioned the quality of the portafilter of the ROK and I have to agree its low quality. Even older, and slightly refined is the Handpresso Wild, a bicycle-pump style espresso maker for on the go use, and we’re also going to make brief mention of a gone, but not forgotten product, the Mypressi nitrogen gas driven portable espresso maker. I pulled shots of Espresso with Flair alongside my La Pavoni Europiccola, and The Rok, using the same coffee. The PRO 2 still features our copper-plated portafilter base and is offered in either our premium matte black or our brushed chrome. I like to have my coffee brewing equipment as clean as possible (this is one of many reasons I’m not a fan of Super Automatics, as you cannot get to the brewing chamber to give it a deep cleaning), so having a completely enclosed part in the Flair is a negative for me. Bottom line is this: if you’re brewing a double, using 15-16g of coffee or more, use a grind that’s closer to a moka pot grind than an espresso grind. I reckon I’ve ground over 100k of coffee in my smart grinder pro so far, over the period of a couple of years, and I’ve not had to adjust them as yet.

The unique design of the Flair makes it the best way to craft, by hand, a rich, full-bodied, cafe-quality espresso at home. Obviously, the quality of the coffee itself is also very important, there's not much point in investing money in great gear and then using rubbish coffee ;-). You then remove the outer beefy collar from the boiling water, and carefully slide the grinds chamber into the bottom of it. It’s not an ultralight, backpacking travel kit, but it’s light and compact enough to bring with you in normal travels. We bought the Signature Bundle model, which also includes a second brewing chamber and piston assembly, and an upgraded, very nicely weighted (310g) 39.The problem with the La Pavonis is, the brew head gets too hot after pulling one shot; you can cool it down with a ghetto fix — wrapping a cold cloth around the piston assembly to draw off excessive heat — but it’s a crap shoot and even if you get the second shot pull okay, the third one is going to be a torched, burnt shot. This brew head is smaller, and has less stainless steel than the PRO 2 Brew Head, with a 60ml reservoir and a dose range of 12-18 grams. Flair 58 is a fully-manual, professional grade, lever espresso press that is focused on maximizing the workflow and the espresso from at-home extractions.
