About this deal

When I first applied this, I was expecting to get that tingling feeling you get when you apply an acid product to your face. I was a little disappointed, because this formula didn’t tingle or sting at all! Instead, it felt hydrating and gentle and it leaves my skin softer and more supple than other of my alpha-hydroxy acid toners. a) Betaine Salicylate is the BHA portion of this toner and comes in a concentration of 4% (which is equivalent to a 2% salicylic acid). BHA’s are oil-soluble, so they can deep clean pores, exfoliate, reduce acne and blemishes and smooth uneven skin. We kept the ingredients list short and simple and excluded all the unnecessary ingredients that might irritate the skin. Benefit And a lot of the other closed comedones I had have since disappeared as well. Cooler yet, it didn’t even make my skin purge. Generally when I use active ingredients they will make the clogs I have come to a head, and I’ll be left with a nice little whitehead for a couple of days. -___- As the name suggests, this product is designed to make skin look poreless. Although low, the BHA content can help to keep pores free from clogs. With that cleared out, the tannin from the willow bark extract helps to condition skin and minimize the appearance of pores. The two seem like a perfect combination but will it actually help me achieve glass skin goals?

For the same reasons they are popularly used, they are also commonly avoided. Anecdotally, many individuals have reported that Silicones cause/excerbate breakouts, irritation, cause a feeling of skin being unable to breathe, cause clumping of cosmetic products and find it difficult to wash off. As a result, those who find them problematic are avoiding them and increasingly, cosmetic companies are avoiding them as well. So no, this won’t turn into an ungodly amount of salicylic acid when applied on skin. Rather, it’s put into this formula because of the soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits it has. Something I think COSRX deserves credit for! I’ve gotten several questions about the controversy over the COSRX BHA having a higher pH than advertised (around 5.5). Rest assured, this is not something we have to worry about with neutralized forms of salicylic acid (i.e. salicylate). I love how it contains Niacinamide as well! The ingredients list is simple but very effective, as to be expected from Cosrx. It works well with all my other skin care products and doesn’t dry me out or interfere with how my makeup applies or wears throughout the day. The solution absorbs easily into skin and leaves no residue behind. They always try to really maximize their formulas, so rather than simply filling it up with water they went that little extra mile to sneak in some added benefits. 🙂

Recommend to use 2-3 times in a week, and gradually build up the usage according to the skin condition. Recyclable It’s important to note that the main ingredient of this formula is actually Salix Alba Bark Water, which supposedly comprises 88% of the product. This ingredient is derived from the white willow tree, and contains salicin - a substance that can turn into salicylic acid under the right conditions, but isn’t exactly the same thing. Willow bark water is a popular ingredient for acne-related products because it helps to soothe inflamed skin, and not because it can act as a BHA substitute. If all that sounds confusing, here’s the english translation: it sloughs off dead skin cells, unclogs pores, reduces inflammation, and creates a hostile environment for the bacteria that exacerbates acne. So overall, salicylic acid is pretty great!Hey there! I really want to try everything Cosrx makes haha. I got super into Korean products recently only to find most of them have added fragrance, lavendar or citrus oil, etc (AKA stuff that makes my skin dry, itchy and exploded in zits all at once) Thanks to Cosrx and Benton, I can hop on the Korean skincare bandwagon without fear! Yay! In fact, there is some evidence that salicylate (the active BHA in COSRX) at pH 6.5, works just as well as salicylic acid in an acidic vehicle (pH 3.12) after only two days of application.

Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Water / Aqua, Butylene Glycol, Betaine Salicylate, Niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Arginine, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol Founded in 2013, Cosrx is one of the most popular Korean Skincare brands that formulates cruelty-free skin-friendly products with natural ingredients. It’s safe to say they are the ones that popularized the use of Snail Mucin in skincare products. If you’re into Kbeauty, there is no way you wouldn’t have used any products from Cosrx. It’s almost like a rite-of-passage.

As a result, please note this is only an experimental label that can be best used to possible identify problematic products you have used in the past. It is in no way a perfect identifier nor a predictor in whether or not it will exacerbate or cause fungal acne. It will continue to be worked on as more information and research comes to light. If not, don't worry about it - they do have had one of the longest safety records as preservatives! When trying to prevent and treat breakouts is very important that we limit irritation whenever possible. That’s something I discuss in my how to treat acne article. Irritated skin is less resilient and capable of fighting off pathogens and infections, which could further irritate breakouts. It doesn’t help that salicylic acid is often irritating on the skin. BHAs penetrate deeply into the pores and helps clear clogged pores and gently exfoliates dead skin cells, giving the skin its natural glow. BHAs are oil-soluble so they are able to penetrate through oil, natural and otherwise, to truly dissolve it and clean out clogged pores. They also have amazing anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

It’s derived from sugar beets, and many consider it a more gentle alternative to salicylic acid because it isn’t pH dependent, meaning it does not require an acidic environment to work optimally. However some sulfates are so good at their job, they can wash off your skin’s own natural oils that keep it moisturised and protected which can lead to dryness and irritation. And I have reason to believe that this excessive irritation didn’t just happen because the skin on my face is sensitive. Why do I say that? Because my hands are pretty tough. I usually wash them anywhere from 5-10 times per day. Yes, I know that’s bad! Don’t remind me. For using during the daytime, follow with a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF30 or greater. Ingredients After cleansing, soak a cotton pad and swipe a thin layer of the Liquid over the skin, avoiding the eye area. Begin with using the product once a week, and after the skin has adapted to it, increase the usage up to 2 to 3 times a week.Oh, and the Paula’s Choice BHA smells like a** too. I understand that Paula’s Choice has a quarrel against fragrances because they’re potentially irritating, which is good. Kudos to them. But goodness, this stuff stinks haha.
