About this deal

In the first bowl add the silver mica powder and silver glitter (about 1 teaspoon of each to start). Mix it in really well with your hands (you may want to wear gloves for this part). Really work it through until the colour is evenly dispersed. Each set is once again coloured around your Hogwarts house, with Gryffindor championing strong autumnal shades, Hufflepuffs boasting golds and rust-coloured tones, Ravenclaws shimmering with baby blues and silver glitter, and Slytherins celebrating shades of sage greens and silver shimmer.

Infused with coconut oil, Vitamin E and Aloe Leaf Extract, these magical lip balms react to your skin’s PH levels and create the perfect colour shade to compliment your tone. Harry Potter Body Lotion Once we add water, citric acid [C6H8O7] and sodium bicarbonate [NaHCO3] (baking soda) react to form sodium citrate [Na3C6H5O7], water, and carbon dioxide [CO2] gas.

For a little extra potions lesson, you can explore the role of two more ingredients – Polysorbate 80 and SLSA. BUT, we were still able to do a fun demonstration and record it for you to see the general idea. Inspired by the illuminating charm, Lumos, these shimmer drops will help give your skin some extra sparkle. Harry Potter lip crayons So why don’t bath bombs react right away like they do in our other experiments? For the reaction to happen we need to add water. In our other experiments we usually use vinegar as our acid which already has water to activate the reaction. When making bath bombs our citric acid and baking soda (base) are in dry powder form. They can mingle without any reaction. That is until we add the all important… water! When the Harry Potter bath bomb is popped into the tub, it will fizz until a colour is revealed, giving you your Hogwarts House (sorry Hufflepuffs, it might look like you've done a wee in the bath).

Our severely conflicted potions teacher, Professor Snape, would insist that we turn our bath bomb making projects into a lesson. It fizzes, erupts, smells (amazing), sounds like a potion the Half Blood Prince would be proud of!The other thing that helps my boys, the power of Harry Potter and the amazing messages JK Rowlings weaves through her books. When my oldest son was struggling with a lot of anxiety and fears, I was able to help him using lessons inspired by Boggarts. There has been research into the power of Harry Potter in helping foster kindness, understanding and caring in readers. I’ve been a fan since I first read the books in 1999. And I am so happy my boys love Harry Potter as much as I do. Just Like Potions Class – Bath Bomb Experiment Resulting In SO MANY BUBBLES!

Leave molds overnight to harden in a cool, dry place or the freezer. The next morning, carefully open the bath bomb mold or pop the bombs from your silicone mold. In the microwave safe container melt the coconut oil in the microwave. Just heat until it becomes liquid. Don’t let it boil. Now a few of these started out with one inspiration, but over time have taken on a new Harry Potter themed inspiration. Sometimes I write the articles using a non-Harry theme, but today I am sharing our magical interpretations of some tried and true bath bomb recipes! Pour the liquid ingredients into the large bowl with the dry ingredients. Using your hands mix everything together. This may take a few minutes of really working the mixture to evenly disperse all the oils throughout the dry ingredients. Break up any lumps. The mix is ready when it is the texture of wet sand and holds a shape when you squish it in your hands. Colouring the bath bomb mix Enjoy your Harry Potter Bath Bomb! Simply add to your bath water to start fizzing. I recommend removing the feathers before adding to the water, but my son thought the soggy feathers were hilarious. The choice is yours! Add water, 1/2 teaspoon at a time, mixing after each addition of water. Do not add too much water or it will not set properly! If you are trying to reduce your footprint, I highly recommend using a biodegradable glitter or not using glitter at all in your bath bombs. I know some kids love the glitter, and really with these Harry Potter Bath Bombs it adds a bit of sparkly magic, so I have included glitter, but the choice is yours when making these for yourself. I have linked to both a cosmetic glitter and a biodegradable version below.
