Most ordinary soaps are very drying to the skin and can be irritant, particularly when used on dry skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis and elderly dry skin. Soap substitutes such as Doublebase Shower, Doublebase Wash and Doublebase Bath contain emollient oils and are able to gently cleanse the skin without foaming or stripping the skin’s natural oils, providing an effective alternative to foaming shower gels, soaps and bubble baths. DON’T use soaps, bubble baths or foaming shower gels, which tend to dry and irritate the skin. If it bubbles or foams it dries the skin. These are known as emollients. When used as part of your normal showering routine the product helps to: Ordinary foaming soaps, shower gels and bath additives contain harsh detergents and fragrances that can damage dry, sensitive skin. Foaming soaps and shower gels strip oils from the skin leaving it unprotected and even more likely to become dry.

People with psoriasis have red, flaky patches covered in silvery scales. Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use Doublebase Emollient Wash Gel? Doublebase Dry Skin Hand Wash is a unique, protective, soap-free hand cleanser which has an immediate hydrating effect and can be used every day to keep hands clean without drying. It can also be used as a hand lotion after washing. Washing up liquids also contain harsh detergents and can be very bad for dry skin. Hot water doesn’t help either. Don’t think that this is an excuse for not doing the washing up though - wearing rubber gloves (hypoallergenic ones if possible, or with cotton gloves underneath) can stop skin being affected.Dry skin conditions are caused by many different factors, including some temperature changes and food sensitivities. People who have this type of dryness do so because they’re losing water from their bodies while also being less resistant to irritants like allergens or environmental particles that cause problems with allergies in general N.B Current NHS and government guidance on hand washing with soap and water (or hand sanitiser gel if soap and water is not available) should be followed to limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). Emollients should be applied after hand washing to help protect the skin. Doublebase Shower and Doublebase Wash should be used to wash with, in the same way as ordinary shower gels and soaps. However, unlike ordinary shower and wash products, Doublebase Shower and Doublebase Wash do not create a foam or lather. Remember, bubbles are not needed to cleanse the skin. DO use a special liquid bath emollient which is designed to disperse efficiently in the water, or use a specially designed shower emollient if you prefer to shower. (Make sure to place a non-slip mat in the bath or shower).
