Will Phoenix fight for the life she never wanted, or will James lose the one he loves all over again? Ten years later Finn is engaged to Layla’s sister, Ellen. Their shared grief over what happened to Layla drew them close and now they intend to remain together. Still, there’s something about Ellen that Finn has never fully understood. His heart wants to believe that she is the one for him…even though a sixth sense tells him not to trust her.

And let's not even talk about the drama and the "plot twist" that happened out of nowhere at 90% of this book. Ellen alerts Finn to the fact that she found the smallest doll in a Russian doll set that had been missing since she was a girl. She found it on the ledge outside the door. The presence leaves her unsettled because no one knew of its significance except for Layla. When identical tiny dolls begin to show up in odd places, Finn and Ellen begin to question these events in earnest. Is it really Layla or is it someone who has a vendetta against the couple for unknown reasons? Now, I get it, okay? Depression is different for everyone, and I understand that the author had gone through something similar. I can’t say I loved this book, but I did like it. I found the plot really interesting and the twist at the end made me glad I read the book. It also made me wonder if re-reading it would give me a better appreciation for it. I enjoyed the writing and I liked reading the story from different character points of view. Although I liked the book in general, it’s hard to pinpoint why. Especially since I have quite a few criticisms. What I Didn’t LoveThank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A heartfelt love letter to those struggling with life, loss and even acceptance. Nix and James are the perfect example of how love can open your eyes to a new perspective and help guide you through darkness into hope. Emotional, thought provoking and overflowing with romance that will leave you looking out the window wishing your next door neighbor was a hot, broody cop.” -Cambria Hebert, Bestselling Author This book is compulsive reading from start to finish. A perfectly crafted work of art, seamless and mesmerising. I envy those yet to read it for the pleasure they have in store’ Amanda Robson I stab the air with my finger. “You could’ve done better. You could’ve tried harder. Anything! You could’ve done anything except for killing yourself. How could you even think of doing that?” My own cheeks are wet now as I toss the words at her like daggers. “Phoenix, I can’t be with someone like you.” The first 7 chapters are a build up of getting to know the characters. This normally wouldn't be an issue but because the blurb didn't give much away it then became more of a guessing and waiting for things to happen.
