The JLL rowing resistance gives you a variety of exercise that you feel that you are rowing in naturally. Water Resistance — These use a small tank of water. As you row, the flywheel paddles through the water. Unsurprisingly, this is the closest you get to the real rowing-on-water experience. Once again, the harder you row, the harder the resistance. They make a “swoosh” sound as you go. These tend to be high-quality, high-cost, and generally bigger. They won’t fold away quite so easily — if at all. The screen is small but it displays the necessary information efficiently. Certain parts of this rowing machine like the foot cradles and handlebar feel a little cheap and may not last. It’s a shame there’s no device stand, but that’s not a dealbreaker for me. The JLL R200 combined with belt-driven wheel and magnetic resistance so you can get a smooth and quiet motion without disturbing anybody. Water-resistance models are designed to mimic the experience of real rowing, using large water-filled tanks and internal paddles to create resistance. The JLL R200 rower works via magnetic resistance. The magnet is positioned close to the flywheel and comes with an easy-to-reach resistance adjustment dial. The level of resistance is on a scale of 1 – 10. What’s great is that you can adjust the dial from within your seat whilst strapped in. No need to remove your feet, lean forward or get up to set your required level, which can be very annoying. With an ergonomic design, computer console and self-powered structure, this rowing machine is a solid option for any home workouts. If you want a bit more flexibility about where you row, self-powered rowing machines can be really beneficial as they allow you to take your rowing machine into the garden or garage, completely eliminating the need for wires to be thrown across the floor or for you to invest in another extension cable. When folded it has a relatively small footprint – ideal for storing when not in use. Mine was stored in the corner of our lounge and didn’t look too conspicuous.

When I say tough workouts, the magnetic resistance has 10 settings which are adjustable through a dial on the main unit. The dial is conveniently located for mid-workout adjustments. After extensive research, I chose the JLL R200, buying it in November 2019. What Makes the JLL R200 the Best Cheap Rowing Machine? We would have liked to have seen some form of media device holder to allow us to conveniently place a tablet or smartphone in our direct line of view while working out, but this feature is sadly omitted. That being said, you can easily move the rower to a location where you can see a screen or use a laptop placed nearby to either watch your favourite motivational video or your latest Netflix binge.

As already mentioned, the display is on the small side but is completely readable, and despite pretty basic functionality the workouts are intense when using the higher levels of resistance and really pushing yourself. It’s worth pointing out that even high-end rowing machines have simplistic monochrome menus.
