About this deal

With the Black Bush, I am always in the mood, and regardless of my palate that day, it tastes just as wonderful as it did the last time. Its the third time i poored this into my glass and I am filling it with a lot more than 5 centilitres.

It starts strong with heavy notes of pepper, then mellows into classic Irish triple-distilled smoothness. Antrim, by himselfe or his servauntes, to make, drawe, and distil such and soe great quantities of aquavite, usquabagh and aqua composita, as he or his assignes shall thinke fitt; and the same to sell, vent, and dispose of to any persons, yeeldinge yerelie the somme 13s 4d.

After 19 years, bourbon-barrel-aged and sherry-cask-aged malt whiskeys are combined, which is followed by two years of finishing in Madeira drums. blend over the years because it's readily available, consistent and has a taste of island smoke which I love. I do think it's better to drink decent quality malt instead of majority of popular and advertised blends. I recently came across Black Bush in an airport and decided to give it a whirl against my benchmark.

The distillery dates back further than 1608, when it was granted an official license to distil by King James I. Following the ascent of bourbon in the global whiskey market, Bushmills has released blends focused on appealing to bourbon consumers with the release of both the Red Bush and Black Bush, both more weighty and barrel driven than the Original. In this case, the added ice causes the apple and the vanilla flavors to take a front seat while everything else is slipping to the back. The malt is matured in sherry casks and the distilled is a triple distilled sweet batch-distilled grain whiskey. Jocularity aside, I've always found Irish whiskey acceptable if somewhat dull and predictable, like action movies or romantic comedies. The Bushmills team have been hosting whiskey tasting events with artists, highlighting the craft of distilling. Black Bush combines a high amount of single malt whiskey matured in former Oloroso sherry casks with a sweet, batch-distilled grain whiskey. For me, this does bridge the gap between blends and entry level single malt and is worthy of a permanent fixture in my bar as a soft spoken friend. It can be served neat, over ice or Bushmills recommends, “if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, try it frozen”, which makes it really syrupy and an alternative to dessert wine. This review was finalized during a celebratory dram of Black Bush, in honour of Jean-Luc's pursuit of Bowmore Black.

It has a huge depth that interweaves dried fruit flavours with spicy, aromatic maltiness and subtle nutty raisin notes,” says Bushmills.I'm not normally a big fan of Irish whiskey, I prefer Scotch single malt, which, from an Irish man is probably sacrilege but this would be as close to a Scotch as you will get.

Do however indulge in the smooth arrival and development; it's perhaps too easy to sip your way through.

It all started so well on the nose, but this batch leaves a bit to be desired on both palate and finish. I tucked the bottle away in a storage container in my basement, leaving it as a last resort, or for guests who prefer imbibing Irish whiskey. The bottle has a quick shoulder at the top, which tapers directly into the threads for the screw-on metal cap. This unique recipe means Black Bush has rich, fruity notes and a deep intense character, balanced by an incredibly unique smoothness.
