About this deal

The cushions spread the weight of the unit across your legs, while still allowing for some much-needed airflow. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience.

Pay in 3 is a form of credit, may not be suitable for everyone and use may affect your credit score. With three cables potentially in play — one from the Sova to your PC, one for your mouse and one for your headset — you need to rely on good cable routing to keep things tidy. Best of all, if you want you can disconnect your expensive mouse when you put the board aside for the evening. I like playing in my living room, making myself a small nest of nacho crumbs on the sofa, yelling and drinking beer with my spouse. Now I know some people wouldn't ever stomach the idea of going back to a membrane keyboard if they're already mechanical converts, but it's worth pointing out that the quieter keys of the membrane Sova are definitely more living room-friendly than the CLACK CLACK CLACK you'll get on the mechanical version. Also, like a console, my gaming PC in the living room puts guardrails on what might become a self-destructive habit.

Choose your favourite gaming mouse (ROCCAT or otherwise) to utilize on the Sova's large, exchangeable built-in mousepad. But I found it strange that Corsair chose to house the cables on top rather than below the keyboard, where that cover could have doubled as an ergonomic wrist rest. As long as your console is in the living room, in full view of everyone eating dinner and doing homework, you can’t really plonk down on the couch and fire up Mass Effect when you’re supposed to be walking the dog or doing laundry or anything else that a working full-time mom of two young kids should be doing. There’s even a little panel included to allow fans of the tenkeyless Corsair K65 to slip that inside instead. I think the layout of the keyboard is particularly well-chosen; it’s compact but still includes all keys sans the number pad, ensuring simulators and other in-depth titles can still be played without issue.

However, we ended up removing it so that the mouse and keyboard could be put away separately when the Sova wasn’t in use; having the bungee in place lengthened the put-away and set-up process unnecessarily. Sure, I played Duck Hunt and Mortal Kombat with my cousins growing up, and I’ve watched a lot of Halo, but it wasn’t until I started playing them myself that I became ensnared in a gear-related Gordian knot. Hands on reviews' are a journalist's first impressions of a piece of kit based on spending some time with it. Truly bridging the gap between desk-and-chair PC gaming and living room play, Sova provides the vital key ingredient every PC gamer has lacked who wants to experience their favourite games from the comfort of a couch or chair via PC, Steam machine, or streaming device. noise as the key switches rebounded; happily this is only really noticeable when you’re typing in silence, any background music covers it up immediately.

Of course, this makes sense — when you’re playing at a desk, your monitor is going to be only a metre away from you at most, so seeing these details is easier.

Marketing talk aside, we see that the Roccat Sova MK is a similar product to the Corsair LAPDOG in that both aim to provide a base for a keyboard and a mousepad to the right, for the mouse of your choice. The idea of bringing back couch multiplayer is a noble one, and the Sova seems like a one-stop solution to that end. I found the TTC Cherry-MX-style mechanical switches were responsive, yet slightly scratchy and less satisfying to use than those made by more well-known vendors like Cherry or Kailh. There are no such restrictions with the Sova, and for once Roccat's tendency towards the big and bulky side of peripherals actually works out in their favour. But since it’s powered, you need a separate power supply, which has to snake its way across the room from your computer. The ROCCAT® Kone XP Air Wireless Customizable Gaming Mouse with Charging Dock boasts 29 programmable inputs and Stellar Wireless Technology + Bluetooth® connectivity. While smaller PCs and various streaming technologies have cracked the door slightly over the years, Sova kicks that door wide open. My recommendation is, unless you already own a Corsair keyboard or absolutely must have Cherry switches, go with the Sova.
