About this deal

And I am so happy I did, because this book was amazing, it was funny, it was a bit sad at times, at times I was frustrated with a certain character, but generally I just laughed my butt off at the silliness, the bad jokes, the whole family (especially the dad).

The Bolds to the Rescue – The Bolds The Bolds to the Rescue – The Bolds

The children make a great friend of schoolmate Minnie (Charity Bedu-Addo) but things can’t go entirely smoothly or there wouldn’t be any drama. It’s tricky behaving like a human, but they successfully keep their difference secret until one day Mr McNumpty, their grumpy neighbour finds out, and starts to keep an eye on them and their human friend, Minnie. Their secret nearly comes out when they attract the attention of their grumpy next-door neighbour, but maybe he’s got things to hide too. If the audience's reaction from last night is anything to go by, people are going to absolutely love it.

Still I will let people find it out themselves, it is a secret that is quickly told (in the first few pages), but I still don't want to tell anything.

After two hyenas witness a newlywed couple be devoured while on safari, they decide being a person sounds like fun, and they've picked up a fair amount of English listening to tourists all these years, so why not? Mr and Mrs Bold are just like you and me: they live in a nice house (in Teddington), they have jobs (like writing Christmas cracker jokes) and they love to have a bit of a giggle. Sam Pay as the marvellously miserable Mr McNumpty and John Trenchard as adorable Uncle Tony do a great job of keeping a straight face when delivering a few naughty, under-the-radar references; but it’s all done in the best possible taste. Fred is a joker, his funny jokes are sprinkled throughout the story, while Amelia tries her best to blend in with the humans. The ending leaves the way open for further adventures (one of which is already published), and I can see Clary becoming a huge name in children's publishing.

Täytynee luetuttaa tämä vielä kymmenvuotiaallani, niin selviää, mitä mieltä kohderyhmän edustaja Ponnekkaista on. Something odd is happening at the Unicorn Theatre this Christmas… A pair of hyenas are trying to pass themselves off as human, and are living in a house! Like all first-in-a-series, there's a certain amount of adjustment as we warm up to the characters, the setting the world according to The Bolds.

The story is full of incident, packed with humour (including masses of very good jokes) and the Bolds continue to demonstrate that kindness, tolerance, and a good sense of humour are the elements for a happy life. Join Mr and Mrs Bold and their twins Betty and Bobby as they navigate work, school and friends whilst trying to keep up their disguise. First, it's when Betty accidentally lets Minnie catch sight of her tail, which wouldn’t matter except that next-door neighbour nosey Mr McNumpty (Sam Pay) may have seen too.

The Bolds review – Julian Clary’s hyena family will have you

They soon produce twins: Betty (Mae Munuo) and Bobby (Sam Swann), who are just like every kid (except for their tails of course). David Roberts, artist extraordinaire, has really surpassed himself with his depiction of the hyena characters. There’s so much fun to be had here, with musical styles from music hall to rock and roll – definitely something for everyone. Join Mr and Mrs Bold and their twins Betty and Bobby as they navigate work, school and friends whilst trying to hide their hairy tails and keep up their disguise living as humans in the quiet suburban town of Teddington. Nyt on katsokaas sillä tavalla", herra Ponnekas jatkoi, "että meidän perhe eroaa kaikista muista perheistä, kuten olette ehkä huomanneet. At the start of the book we meet the hyenas, Spot and Sue, in their natural habitat, near a safari park in Africa. Travelling to the UK on their tickets and passports, they move into 41 Fairfield Gardens where, since the pair they replace had only recently moved in, no one seems the wiser. The terrific ensemble cast give a highly polished performance, excelling at dancing, close harmony singing and toilet humour in equal measure. It follows a pair of hyenas as they take on the lives and identities of a couple of tourists who get eaten while on safari.
